At the recent Spring Voice On the Net (VON) Expo in San Jose, March 19-22, visitors were able to dial from IP Gear's exhibit on the show floor to a destination of the visitor's choice over IP or GSM via the IP Gear Connect Network. The IP Gear Claro gateway routes calls to either IP or the PSTN based on Quality of Service (QoS). If network traffic is normal, the gateway routes calls over IP. If the network is congested, the gateway routs calls over PSTN. Network congestion was controlled using software for the purpose of the demonstration. This clearly displayed the Claro gateway's ability to route calls based on a configurable QoS threshold that is established in the gateway.

Instead of connecting the gateway directly to the PSTN, calls were routed through an IP Gear Quasar Smartcell GSM gateway, in order to demonstrate the Claro gateway's compatibility between IP and GSM. Furthermore all calls were routed through the IP Gear Connect Network, IP Gear's international VoIP broadband wholesale provider enabling a robust exchange between international VoIP platform providers.
